IN HIS OWN WORDS
CEO, Hitesh Sheth

Big problems, smart people

I had exactly the right kind of support from KV to do what was needed. What I love about KV and Vinod in particular is that they are not pattern matchers. KV goes after opportunities that can transform entire industries and that requires placing big bets. They believe in the power of really smart people tackling really tough problems and understand that with the right kind of partnership, great things will be accomplished.

Determining what’s best

The optimal relationship with a venture firm is one where you can have candid discussions about anything related to making the company successful. That means conversations that force you to think outside the box and always push the limit. Vinod is very good at this, and I find these exchanges to be invigorating. What I equally appreciate is that when it’s decision time, the choice is ultimately left to the CEO and the company.

The right kind of support

Vectra required extremely tough strategy and people decisions early on that most people would have resisted, but I had exactly the right kind of support from KV to do what was needed. When it’s decision time, the choice is ultimately left to the CEO and the company.Furthermore, KV has been terrific in introducing us to their ecosystem, which has been key to assembling a great set of advisors and our board of directors.

Gene pool engineering

The key to hiring is diversity of talent, especially ahead of one’s needs. That does not mean busting the budget, but the reality is that within any P&L, one can stretch. The result for us has been disproportionately large and diverse data science and user experience teams for a company our size.
